Slow Made - With hand toolsVideo | 21’00"London, UK | June 2020
This artwork was specially created for the Digital Craft Festival which took place online from June 26 to 28, 2020.
It consists of a video and a collection of 4 wooden spoons.
The video revealing the complete process of carving a spoon straight from a greenwood log. The piece is slowly made with hand tools from a branch of silver birch. The performance takes place in a small hidden garden in the center of London’s Shoreditch district.
The 4 pocket spoons, illustrated by 8 digital photographs, are on the other hand the symbol of a simple hand craft.
A useful object that can be carried everywhere with yourself.
This artwork is an invitation to experience the slowdown.
A poetry of savoir-faire celebrating the intelligence of the hand.
The simplicity of the material in harmony with the gesture leads to a state of meditative contemplation.
Time stands still, the work slowly takes shape.
One last movement of the tool and the object is born.
Only the patina of time will reveal its soul.
